Index by day
This heatmap shows which of the biggest coins beat Bitcoin over 90 days.
Each tile is one coin, with its price change over the last 90 days. Violet tiles beat Bitcoin and amber tiles fell behind, and a stronger colour means a bigger gap. Bitcoin itself moved +23.2% over the same days, so a coin must have risen by more than that to count.

A reading of 75 or higher means altcoin season and 25 or lower means Bitcoin season.
| Index | Season | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 75 to 100 | Altcoin season | Most of the biggest coins are beating Bitcoin. |
| 26 to 74 | Between seasons | Neither Bitcoin nor the altcoins are winning clearly. |
| 0 to 25 | Bitcoin season | Bitcoin is beating most of the biggest coins. |
The index counts coins and ignores how much each one moved, so it says who is winning and not by how much. The heatmap above shows the size of every move.
The index is the share of the biggest coins that beat Bitcoin over 90 days.
This is BitPredict's own index. It is worked out here from the same daily closing prices as the crypto profit calculator, so anyone can check it. The numbers are also published as a JSON file.
- The coins. The 50 largest coins by market cap after Bitcoin, with stablecoins and wrapped coins left out. The list was last read on 31 October 2026.
- The prices. Daily closing prices in US dollars, up to the close of 30 October 2026. A day with no close is never filled in.
- The change. A coin's close on 30 October 2026 divided by its close on 1 August 2026, minus 1. Bitcoin moved +23.2% over the same days.
- The count. 31 coins beat Bitcoin and 50 had a close on both days, so the index is 31 ÷ 50 × 100 = 62.
- The chart. Every earlier day is worked out the same way with today's list of coins. A coin that was not trading 90 days before a day is left out of that day's count.
These are the questions people ask about the altcoin season index.
What is the altcoin season index?
It is a number from 0 to 100 that shows how many of the biggest coins did better than Bitcoin over the last 90 days. A high number means money has been moving from Bitcoin into other coins. A low number means Bitcoin has been leading.
Is it altcoin season right now?
Not by this index. It is 62, so 31 of 50 big coins beat Bitcoin over the last 90 days, and altcoin season starts at 75. It was 66 30 days ago.
How is the altcoin season index calculated?
For each of the 50 largest coins after Bitcoin, we compare its price change over 90 days with Bitcoin's. The index is the number of coins that beat Bitcoin divided by the number of coins counted, times 100. Every figure comes from daily closing prices in US dollars.
What number means altcoin season?
75 or higher means altcoin season, because at least three out of four big coins beat Bitcoin. 25 or lower means Bitcoin season, because at most one in four did. Anything in between is neither.
Which coins does the index count?
The 50 largest coins by market cap after Bitcoin. Stablecoins and wrapped coins are left out, because they are built to track another asset instead of beating it. A coin with no price on one of the two days is not counted that day.
How is this different from the Fear & Greed Index?
The Fear & Greed Index measures the mood of the whole market. The altcoin season index measures who is winning: Bitcoin or everything else. The two can disagree, so many people read them together.
How often does the index update?
Every day. It uses daily closing prices, so the page always shows the last full day, and the date is printed under the gauge.
These pages show the same market from other angles.
